Trauma Therapist in Oakland, CA
Hello! My name is So Yung (she/her/hers). As a trauma therapist based in Oakland, CA, I specialize in helping individuals who struggle with anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and personal growth and identity issues.
I believe that everyone deserves a safe space to reflect, explore, and gain support around their needs and concerns without fear of judgment. Therefore, within this space I aim to help you develop the insights, skills, confidence, and courage you need to enact the changes that you desire.
I bring an awareness of intersectionality to the therapy space. With this in mind, I acknowledge how experiences of “otherness” impact our mental health and development. Everyone is welcome in therapy with me. Additionally, as a queer woman of color, I aim to provide an affirming space for AAPI, QTBIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ clients.
My approach to our work together is exploratory and conversational. As a result, clients have noted that I have a gentle approach and I ask questions that help them explore throughout the session at a pace that feels right for them. The mindfulness-based approaches I use can bring both immediate symptom relief, and help to shift old patterns and develop new ways of interacting in the present.
A consultation call gives you a sense of what it will be like to work with me and to ask any questions you may have. So please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Training & Certification Highlights
As a lifelong learner, I enjoy expanding my therapeutic knowledge and skills through ongoing participation in training and consultation groups. In addition to the three year post-license advanced training program in Somatic Therapy for trauma resolution through Somatic Experiencing International, I’m trained in core Internal Family Systems (IFS) principles and techniques through the IFS Institute. In order to increase my ability to treat complex PTSD, I’m also completing training for certified Clinical Trauma Professionals that incorporates neurobiological and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy approaches.
