About So Yung Kim, LCSW
Trauma Recovery Therapist
Hello! My name is So Yung (she/her/hers).
I’m a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in helping individuals who struggle with anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and personal growth and identity issues. My approach to therapy is warm, strengths-based, and holistic.
As someone who has lived through trauma and complicated grief, and found help at different times in therapy, I want to provide that same help and support to others. As a queer woman of color with a complex family history, I had a really hard time finding a therapist I could connect with and who didn’t make assumptions about my experiences and how they affected me. As a therapist I aim to provide a space where my clients can express themselves free from judgment and feel accepted as they are.
My approach is to tailor therapy to best meet your needs. I provide help with relieving immediate symptoms and also to explore how past experiences influence your present-day thoughts and behaviors, and how you relate to others. Our therapeutic relationship is part of the change process, and I use an open, warm, and gentle but direct approach to communicating with you.
A consultation call gives you a sense of what it will be like to work with me and to ask any questions you may have, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Education and Training
I have a bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from Portland State University, and a Master of Social Work degree from San José State University. I completed my pre-licensure clinical training with the San Francisco Department of Public Health providing therapy to clients in community mental health clinics, and a three year post-license advanced training program in Somatic Therapy for trauma resolution through Somatic Experiencing International.
I’m a lifelong learner, and I continue expanding my therapeutic knowledge and skills through ongoing participation in training and consultation groups. Right now I’m focused on a Complex Trauma training course to increase my ability to help clients with developmental trauma, attachment and relationship problems, and dissociative identity disorder.
