What Is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is an integrative, mind-body awareness approach to healing. It is based on scientific research about the physiology of trauma.
Experiences of trauma and chronic stress can overwhelm your nervous system. When this happens you may become stuck in hypervigilance, always ready for fight or flight. Or you may become locked in a freeze state, unable to release the survival energy trapped beneath the surface.
During our sessions we’ll work with your body’s natural ability to release tension and stress that has become trapped in your nervous system.


Is SE the same thing as therapy?
SE is an approach that can be incorporated into different forms of healing practices. As a licensed psychotherapist I weave SE techniques into talk therapy sessions to help you fine-tune your awareness of physical sensations and how these are connected to your mental and emotional state.
For clients who wish to explore their body’s signals, stress response, and grounding ability more deeply, I can provide more fully body-focused sessions.
While we work together to rebalance your nervous system and stabilize your body’s stress response, you may notice changes like an increased ability to regulate emotions, less fear and anxiety, stronger trust in yourself, and a greater sense of connection with others.
